Taiwanese chain Din Tai Fung is closing its first US location after 20 years due to the “current economic climate”.

The Coronavirus pandemic, which led to a worldwide lockdown, has severely impacted the US economy. According to the BBC, the virus has caused the US economy to shrink at its fastest rate since 2008.

In a post on Instagram, the restaurant chain said it is being forced to close its Arcadia location.

“As a result of the current economic climate, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our first U.S. location,” the post reads.

“Din Tai Fung USA has always been a family-owned restaurant,” the post continues. “We first opened this location over 20 years ago to introduce Taiwanese cuisine, culture, and our signature Xiao Long Bao to our guests here in the United States.

Other Din Tai Fung locations across the US will remain open.

“Since then, through the gracious support of our community, we have been able to share the Din Tai Fung experience throughout the West Coast,” the company reassured their followers.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of this location, making this decision all the more heartbreaking. We sincerely thank you for your loyalty and support over the past 20 years. We look forward to continuing to serve you at our Westfield Santa Anita location.⁣”

In other news, a Virginia Councilman Paul Riddick has stated that Chinese restaurants don’t deserve aid.
