Omnitos reports that Jackie Chan is in negotiations with Marvel to play Zheng Zu in Shang-Chi.

In the comics Zu is Shang-Chi’s father and the Emperor of K’un Lyn. The superhero was created from Zu’s “heart from the steel of the Ebony Blade melted in the Eternal Flame.”

Although the part may only be a minor one, Chan is rumoured to be in negotiations with Marvel Studios for the role. If confirmed, it will be announced officially at ‘Disney d23 Expo’ from 23-25 August 2019.

Furthermore, Zu eventually becomes a villain in the comic book series, which could mean Chan playing a more prominent role in the future.

Last month Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu was announced as the lead character in Marvel’s upcoming film Shang-Chi alongside Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina.

In other news, Liu recently responded Asian Boss’s YouTube video in which people were asked if he was “too ugly” to play Shang-Chi.
