Mike Pence’s chief of staff has cited Elaine Chao as proof that Donald Trump is not racist

As reported by Newsweek, Mike Pence’s chief of staff Marc Short has cited Elaine Chao to prove that Donald Trump is not racist.

Short’s comments followed Trump’s controversial tweets telling Democratic congresswomen to “go back” to their countries.

“So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……” Trump wrote in one tweet.

“….and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” he continued in another. “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how….”

In response, Short told Fox News that the president could not have had any “racist motives” as he selected Taiwanese-born Elaine Chao to be his secretary of transportation.

Speaking about a recent naturalization ceremony, Short said, “that day, [Trump] was joined by a Cabinet member in this administration who came to the United States as a child, unable to speak English, learned English, and eventually became a naturalized citizen. She is an Asian American, Elaine Chao, serving in the Cabinet of the Trump administration.”

“So when people write that the president has racist motives here, just look at the reality of who is actually serving in Donald Trump’s cabinet,” Short concluded.
