Jon Park AKA Dumbfoundead joins Awkwafina’s Comedy Central TV series

Deadline reports that Jon Park AKA Dumbfoundead is joining the cast of Awkwafina‘s upcoming Comedy Central television series.

The series, titled Awkwafina, will see the Crazy Rich Asians star playing Nora who lives with her father and grandmother in Queens .

Speaking about the new TV series, Awkwafina previously said it “will take place where I was born and raised, off of Queens Blvd. featuring my father and my grandma, in a single family house, with many expired Asian Calendars. [My] father and my grandma, in a single family house, with many expired Asian Calendars.”

The 31-year-old also added that the series would be entirely penned by women.

Comedy Central recently released a casting call for the show, looking for people “to portray Asian men and women of all ages in various background/extra roles throughout the season.”

In the most recent update, Korean-American rapper Jon Park has been announced to play a recurring character in the series. Park will play Doug – a friend of Nora.

Park joins Bowen Yang, BD Wong and Lori Tan Chinn who will play Nora’s more successful cousin, Nora’s father and Nora’s grandmother respectively.

Awkwafina will executive produce with Dornetto, Aniello, Peter Principato and Itay Reiss of Artists First.

In related news, Awkwafina was recently cast in Marvel’s upcoming superhero film Shang-Chi alongside Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu. Speaking about the film, Awkwafina said the movie will “mean a lot for [her] community”.
