Chinese shoppers have been going crazy for Uniqlo Kaws products

SCMP reports that Chinese shoppers swarmed Uniqlo stores for their newly released Kaws collaboration products.

T-shirts and bags featuring artwork by American artist Kaws were released on Monday. Garments were priced at 99 yuan (US$14.32) per piece but were later resold online for up to US$115.

Video footage of Chinese shoppers rushing into the stores surfaced online after the garments were went on sale at midnight on 3 June. The products instantly sold out online within five minutes.

In one video, shoppers were seen crawling under the shutters as they opened. Another video showed two men fighting as the retail store opened.

Some were seen raiding the racks, grabbing entire packets of the T-shirts, whilst other shoppers tried taking the shirts from others.

“Many raced each other and crawled into the store. It was spectacular. I have seen big promotional days and this could be compared to that,” one shop assistant said.

The hashtag #EverybodyKAWS was trended on Weibo with 450 million hits and over 83,000 comments within one day.

In April, a KAWS painting inspired by The Simpsons sold for HK$115.96m at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong.
