Michelle Yeoh will star in a Star Trek spinoff as Captain Philippa Georgiou.

Deadline reports that Michelle Yeoh will have her own Star Trek: Discovery spinoff focusing on her character Captain Philippa Georgiou.

CBS’s Star Trek Discovery will return for its second season on 17 January as Yeoh’s series is in very early stages.

Yeoh will continue to be part of the Discovery seasons as well as her new spinoff, which will continue on from season 2.

“Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades,” Star Trek executive producer, co-creator and writer Alex Kurtzman said in a statement today.

“As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her,” he added. “Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”

“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich ‘Star Trek’ stories,” Yeoh said. “Being a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’”

In other news, Crazy Rich Asians , which starred Yeoh, was recently awarded a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Comedy.
