Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu has his eyes on a particular character in the Crazy Rich Asians sequel.

Crazy Rich Asians is not even out yet in the UK but talks of a sequel are already underway following its phenomenal success in the US.

Digital Spy reports that Kim’s Convenience star Simu Liu has already chosen which character he wants to play in the sequel.

Liu had auditioned multiple times for the film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s original book. He even interviewed for lead role Nick Young, which went to Henry Golding. “I auditioned for the original about four times, so I think there was some definite interest,” Simu said.

“But at the end of the day, when I watched the characters on screen, I understand where they went with it,” the Canadian actor added. “A lot of the characters have an older feel, I read a little bit younger at the time.”

Kwan wrote Crazy Rich Asians as part of a trilogy. 2015’s China Rich Girlfriend and 2017’s Rich People Problems followed on from the original story.

For Liu, Carlton Bao is the most suitable fit for him. In China Rich Girlfriend, Carlton is Rachel Chu’s (Constance Wu) troublesome half-brother.

“What’s really interesting to me about Carlton is that he’s a bit younger and he’s got a bit of a wild streak to him,” Liu said. “I hope I’m going to get a chance to read for that role, and I certainly will be ready for it.”

In related news Liu recently discussed how he became an actor after being an accountant.

As well as Kim’s Convenience, you can also catch Liu on Wong Fu Productions’ comedy series Yappie.
