Beijing filmmaker Chloe Zhao to direct Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’

Beijing-born director Chloe Zhao will take on Marvel’s The Eternals.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chloe Zhao will direct Marvel Studios’ The Eternals

Matthew and Ryan Firpo are screenwriters on the title, created by Jack Kirby in 1976.

The Eternals are super-powered beings. The project also features the Deviants that were created by cosmic beings known as Celestials.

A love story between Ikaris (a cosmic energy fuelled man) and superheroine Sersi.

Nicole Kassell, Travis Knigh, Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra were all considered to direct The Eternals but the role ultimately went to Zhao.

Zhao had previously been considered to direct Black Widow – a standalone featuring Scarlett Johansson. Marvel eventually decided upon Cate Shortland.

Born and raised in Beijing, Zhao attended boarding school in London and high school in LA. She went on to  earn a bachelor’s degree in political science at Mount Holyoke College. After working as a party promoter, in real estate and bartending, Zhao studied film production at New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
