Korean American actor Charles Melton will join the cast of The Sun Is Also A Star.

Charles Melton is best known for replacing fellow Asian American actor Ross Butler as Reggie in CW’s television series Riverdale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Melton will take on his highest-profile project yet by starring in The Sun Is Also A Star. Melton will star alongside Yara Shahidi (Black-ish) as Daniel Bae.

The Sun Is Also A Star is based on the New York Times best-seller from Nicola Yoon of the same name. The plot follows a girl in New York City (Shahidi) who falls in love just before her family is set to be deported to Jamaica. She meets the teenage son of Korean-American, Bae, by fate.

MGM and Warner who have secured the rights to the film had partnered with Yoon to create a film adaptation of her debut ‘Everything, Everything’.

Les Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton will produce whilst Tracy Oliver will executive produce.

The film has a release date of 17 May 2019.
