Olivia Munn and Mark Hamill have come to the defence of Kelly Marie Tran, who received abuse over her role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Olivia Munn and Mark Hamill have jumped to the defence of Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran. A few days ago, Tran deleted her Instagram after “months of harassment”.

Abuse included, “Ching Chong Wing Tong is a dumbass fucking character Disney made and is a stupid, retarded, and autistic love interest for Finn,” and “She better die in the coma because she is a dumbass bitch.”

X-Men: Apocalypse actress Olivia Munn, who is half Chinese, posted a tribute to Tran on her Instagram. Sharing a picture of her, Munn wrote, “as an Asian American actress myself, I am SO PROUD of @kellymarietranfor forging a path in Hollywood, which is extremely hard because it’s not a path that already exists for us.”

Munn went on to praise Tran’s portrayal of Rose Tico in The Last Jedi. “Not only did she find a way, but she found it all the way to STAR WARS !!! She is ridiculously talented, brave and gorgeous. I think it’s interesting how her character Rose Tico in #TheLastJediallowed us to see how widespread the First Order’s venom has become, reaching out to the farthest points of the galaxy.”

The 37-year-old actress expressed her frustration at those who targeted Tran. “Kelly is showing us how poisonous people can corrode so many things right here on Earth. I’m proud of Kelly for taking a stand and saying enough to the bullshit. But I hope that if she ever wants to come back to social media, she does, because she deserves to be here and we need more people like her putting good energy out in the world. Just remember girl, DON’T TRIP OVER THE HATERS, WALK OVER THEM”

Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill also defended Tran in a post on Twitter. Sharing a photo of himself with his arm around Tran, Hamill simply wrote, “What’s not to love?
