Wong Fu Productions has released an official trailer for its upcoming comedy series Yappie.

Asian American filmmakers Wong Fu Productions has released an official trailer for Yappie – an upcoming comedy series.

The single-camera comedy “explores the social and racial issues related to the contemporary Asian American experience,” according to Wong Fu Productions’ YouTube channel .The plot is told from the perspective of lead character Andrew and his friends who are all ‘Yappies’ – young Asian professionals.

“Asian Americans are an often overlooked minority in the US for a variety of reasons, and we’re creating a show to examine and share these causes and their effects on an entire generation,” reads Wong Fu’s trailer description.

Yappie has a cast consisting mainly of Asians, starring Wong Fu’s very own Philip Wang, Simu Liu (Kim’s Convenience), Janine Oda, Julie Zhan, Victoria Park, Brad Gage, Olivia Sui and Dante Basco.

The comedy series was self financed with the help of Wong Fu’s Patreon.

Five episodes of the first season will be released weekly, starting on 20 June.

“It’s something I’ve been imagining for years,” said Wang. “Over the past six months we’ve been hard at work to make this first season of five episodes.”
