A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for throwing a bike from the 30th floor of an apartment building in Singapore.

Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a media release that the teenager is believed to have committed a “rash act”.

“If convicted for Rash Act, the suspect shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 6 months, or with fine which may extend to $2,500, or with both,” the SPF media release said.

“The Police take a serious view of such dangerous acts that endanger the lives of others and will take swift action against the perpetrators.”

Video footage of the incident surfaced online yesterday. In the video, a male voice can be heard in the background saying, “This is not my fault, I swear to god.” Another male is then seen picking up a ride sharing ‘ofo’ bicycle and throwing it off the ledge.

The suspect was arrested on the same day. Bicycle-sharing platform ofo had also made a police report.

In a statement to Channel News Asia, ofo said, “We treat these incidents very seriously, and this is something that goes beyond vandalism, as it poses a threat to the safety of everyone around.”

“The concept of sharing is at the core of our business and is something we firmly believe in. We will continue to be relentless in helping authorities better regulate the industry.”
