A French tourist was attacked by a crocodile in Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park after trying to take a selfie with it.

Muriel Benetulier squatted close to the reptile in an attempt to take a photo with it. Whilst getting up, the crocodile snapped her left leg, according to authorities at the national park.

Thanya Netithammakul, head of the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation reported that the 41-year-old tourist had suffered a severe bite wound.

The incident was reported by the park chief, Kanchit Srinoppawan. Benetulier was visiting the park with her husband when the couple discovered the crocodile lurking in the water.

Bankok Poast reported that the French tourist was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Netithammakul, signboards were in place warning visitors about the crocodiles and tourists are told to avoid the nature trail.
