Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto joined The Roots on The Tonight Show to perform the Mario theme.

Miyamoto appeared on The Tonight Show to perform the iconic theme tune with the legendary hip hop band. Presenter Jimmy Fallon is seen strolling across the screen tapping a Mario question mark box with coins jumping out of it.

The Japanese video game creator is seen sitting between The Roots playing an acoustic guitar as he jams along with the band.

Fans will notice that this rendition of the fanfare theme ends with the notes that signify that Mario has lost a life.

Miyamoto appeared on the late night talk show with Nintendo of America’s president Reggie Fils-Aimé, who was promoting two of Nintendo’s upcoming releases: iOS game Super Mario Run and the still-in-development Nintendo Switch console/handheld hybrid.
