The iconic giant Gundam currently found in Tokyo, Japan, will be torn down next March.

The Gundam statue has been drawing in tourists and fans since it first went up in 2012. Previously, a different giant Gundam was displayed in Tokyo in 2009, followed by another one in Shizuoka in 2010 – however, neither were permanent displays.

This particular statue is based on the iconic RX-78-2 mobile suit piloted by Amuro Ray in the first Mobile Suit Gundam series.

The statue can currently be found outside the DriverCity Tokyo’s mall, Odaiba.

Whilst fans of the statue will surely be sad to see it go, it has been reported that there are plans to construct a new giant Gundam. Considering 2019 is Gundam’s 40th anniversary, we can probably expect to see its return to the Japanese capital around then.
