Japan’s first VR porn festival was forced to close as too many people showed up.

The festival, also known as Adult VR Fest 01 was due to take place in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, which is known for its arcades and unique stores. The event showcased the use of VR headsets such as Oculus Rift to heighten the pornography experience. However, the festival attracted too much attention that the adjoining street became too cover crowded with people wanting to try the festival’s unique experience. Police were called in to break up the crowd and end the festival to prevent a potential riot or further disruptions to the nearby areas.

The lucky few who managed to participate in the event were treated to an alternative world of pornography involving headsets, machines and dolls.

Although Adult VR Fest 01 was indeed the first VR porn festival in Japan, virtual reality pornography has been around for a number of years. Ever since Palmer Luckey’s Oculus Rift DK1 headset inception in 2012, people have been trying to make virtual reality porn a reality using photographic scans of live models, 360-degree videos and digital recreations of realistic physics.

As a result, the industry has adapted to embrace the new technology, with a number of companies offering hardware to accompany its software such as tools, peripherals and accessories than can augment the VR experience.

The organisers of the event issued apologies to those who did not make it into the festival and have promised to hold the festival soon in a much larger venue.
