John Wick star Keanu Reeves has been secretly financing children’s hospitals.

As reported by Science Insanity, Keanu Reeves has been funding children’s hospitals without many people knowing.

Reeves, whose father is of Chinese-Hawaiian, English, Irish and Portuguese descent, first made his big charitable donation in the 90’s. His younger sister Kim was diagnosed with leukemia and he became her primary caretaker.

As well as donating to various cancer charities, he established a foundation in Kim’s honor without attaching his own name to it. The foundation funds cancer research and supports children’s wards.

“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research,” Reeves said in 2009. “I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

Reeves also volunteered at the Stand Up to Cancer telethon in 2008 as well as volunteering as the goalkeeper during a charity ice hockey SCORE (Spinal Cord Opportunities for Rehabilitation Endowment) match.

On set, Reeves is also reportedly a generous and charitable person.

“Every day for the last few weeks of filming, Keanu treated the stage hands and grunt workers (including myself) by taking us out for free breakfast and lunch,” wrote one Reddit user who worked on Chain Reaction with him. “He was genuinely a very nice guy to work with. Since then, I’ve worked on about 30 different sets and have never met an actor as generous and friendly as him.”

Reeves also hired a family friend to work on the set of The Matrix after he found out the family was struggling.

During the filming of The Matrix Reloaded, Reeves gifted ever team member of the special effects team a Harley Davidson motorcycle for Christmas.

The 54-year-old actor is estimated to have given away between $75 million and $100 million to people who work behind the scenes on films.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is out on 17 May 2019.
