A travel blogger visiting Montenegro filmed the moment a group of local teenagers harassed her with racial slurs, mock accents, and rubbish on a crowded public bus.

Content creator ‘The Asian Girl Abroad‘ posted the clip after boarding a local bus from the historic coastal town of Kotor to Perast at 3.40pm on 13 October. She stated that the group began targeting her the moment she took her seat, carrying on their abuse for nearly half an hour while other passengers looked on.

Targeted On A Public Bus

The footage shows youths sitting behind and around her making mocking noises, imitating East Asian accents, shouting “ni hao”, and howling like dogs. According to the traveller, the howling was a direct reference to offensive stereotypes about Asian diets.

She sat quietly through the initial confrontation before pulling out her phone.

“After 15 minutes of this, I started recording,” she explained.

The video shows several teenagers realising they are on camera. Some attempted to hide their faces, while others demanded she stop filming. One boy asked her directly to put the phone away, prompting an immediate reply from the blogger.

“I said no, only if he asked his friends to stop. Which they obviously didn’t,” she stated.

The harassment escalated from verbal taunts to physical objects. The teenagers began screwing up wads of paper and pelting them at the back of her head and shoulders.

She turned around in her seat and confronted the youths directly, telling them: “Learn some f**king respect.”

She picked up one of the paper balls and threw it straight back.

The abuse carried on despite her warnings. When the bus continued along its route, a red-haired girl seated nearby questioned why the video only captured certain people in the group. In response, the blogger photographed each individual involved and added their faces directly to the final post.

Warning To Future Visitors

The creator, who has visited 46 countries, said she felt shocked to experience such blatant hostility in a renowned tourist hotspot. She was travelling alongside her 60-year-old mother at the time of the trip and expressed relief that she took the brunt of the hostility rather than her parent.

“Montenegro, do better,” she wrote. “I had felt that the culture was cold and the locals were unfriendly, but never expected this level of racism. I will never return to Montenegro after this trip and cannot recommend it to others. Spend your money elsewhere.”

Viewers online reacted with fury at the teenagers’ behaviour, with many urging local authorities in Kotor to identify the youths and issue a public apology.
