Fanatics Studios is doubling down on athlete-driven storytelling with a new documentary centered on Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee, spotlighting her comeback and potential path to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The untitled project, developed in partnership with OBB and Cookie Jar & a Dream Studios — Dick’s Sporting Goods’ in-house production arm — will follow Lee’s return to elite gymnastics competition. The documentary is currently being shopped to streaming platforms, as demand grows for behind-the-scenes sports content tied to major global events like the Olympics.

Lee’s return marks one of the most closely watched stories in gymnastics. After winning all-around gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, along with a bronze medal on uneven bars, she faced a major setback in 2023 when she was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease that nearly ended her career.

She ultimately made a competitive comeback at the Paris 2024 Olympics, earning two bronze medals and helping secure team gold for the United States. While many expected her to retire following Paris, Lee has continued training — putting her on a potential trajectory toward competing on home soil at the LA 2028 Olympics.

“This is more than a documentary; it’s an invitation to come along for the journey. I know there’s more in me, and this is my chance to challenge myself, test my limits, and see what I’m truly capable of,” said Lee. “This isn’t about proving anyone wrong. It’s about showing up for myself and discovering what’s possible. Through the setbacks and the victories, I’m giving myself one more chance to find out what happens when I keep going.”

Fanatics Studios CEO Michael D. Ratner emphasized that the film aims to go beyond competition footage, offering deeper access into Lee’s personal and professional journey.

“We created Fanatics Studios to bring fans closer than ever to the most groundbreaking and beloved stories in sports. From our first conversations with Suni, it was immediately clear that there is an amazing story to tell that goes deeper than what fans see in competition,” said Ratner. “This documentary gives audiences unprecedented access to one of the most accomplished athletes of her generation as she navigates extraordinary personal and professional challenges. We’re proud to partner with Suni and Cookie Jar & a Dream Studios to capture this defining chapter of her life and career.”

The documentary is directed by Anna Chai, whose credits include Gutsy and Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross, and features a lineup of executive producers from Fanatics Studios, Cookie Jar & a Dream Studios, and Lee’s own team.

The project adds to Fanatics Studios’ expanding slate of sports content, which includes The Fanatics Flag Football Classic and production of the 2026 ESPY Awards, as the company continues to position itself at the intersection of sports, media, and streaming.
