Paramount Pictures and HYBE America have finalized the official title and theatrical schedule for their joint cinematic project. Previously tracking under a different name, the live-action musical feature is officially titled K-Pop: The Debut.

The studio has scheduled the film for a North American theatrical release on 26 February 2027. This slot places the movie in direct competition with high-profile studio projects, including the Warner Bros thriller Panic Carefully.

The film has assembled an international cast led by Ji-young Yoo, who recently gained widespread recognition as the voice of Zoey in the Academy Award-winning animated feature K-Pop Demon Hunters. Yoo stars alongside the American singer-songwriter Eric Nam.

The supporting line-up features a mix of Hollywood faces and established South Korean talent, including Yoo Ji-tae, Tony Revolori, Gia Kim, Sung Jun, and Kang Sora. The current iteration of the screenplay was written by Elyse Hollander and Eileen Shim, following previous drafts by Crazy Rich Asians writer Adele Lim.

Production duties are being handled by James Shin, the president of film and television at HYBE America, alongside Arthur Spector, Joshua Davis, and Scooter Braun. The project has undergone a lengthy development process since 2020, moving from 20th Century Studios to its current home at Paramount.

The narrative of K-Pop: The Debut focuses on a young Korean-American woman who chooses to defy the expectations of her family to travel to Seoul. Once there, she enters a highly competitive, televised elimination tournament designed to assemble the next global pop group.

The project represents the first major Hollywood studio production to film entirely on location in South Korea. Director Benson Lee, known for Seoul Searching, aims to use the film to document the strict training systems, high stakes, and dedicated community that define the modern music industry in Seoul.

To add weight to the fictional competition, the film will feature a cameo appearance from KATSEYE, the real-world global girl group launched by HYBE and Geffen Records through the 2023 reality series Dream Academy.

The inclusion of the group aligns with HYBE’s broader strategy to expand its active musical talent into cross-platform theatrical releases. KATSEYE recently raised their international profile with a performance at the 2026 Coachella festival, where they brought out the musical cast of K-Pop Demon Hunters to perform live.

By inserting an active, touring pop group into the Paramount feature, the producers aim to give Western audiences an accurate glimpse into the mechanics of the South Korean idol system.
