John Kim is headed to Queensland. The actor, known for his roles in The Librarians and the recent Cruel Intentions reboot, has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Australian drama Fortitude Valley. He joins a production that already features veteran performers Kat Stewart and Hunter Page-Lochard.

In this new series, Kim takes on the role of Gavin Chang. His character is a Detective Senior Constable brought in for a special operation. The goal is to solve a pair of cold-case murders that have long haunted the local area.

The series is a production of Moving Floor Entertainment and takes its name from the central Brisbane district. The show explores the friction between the bright, public face of the Queensland capital and the darker secrets hidden in its corners. According to the producers, the plot centers on the corrupting nature of power and the difficult truths people hide from their families.

For Kim, this project adds to an increasingly busy international schedule. He is also slated to appear in the animated Voltron film and the thriller Perfect Girl.

Filming for Fortitude Valley begins next month. The entire production, including post-production and visual effects, will stay within Queensland. This local focus helped the project secure support from Screen Queensland’s finance funds and digital incentives.

Rachel Okine, the Head of Scripted at the ABC, expressed her enthusiasm for the project. She noted that the broadcaster is happy to return to Brisbane to work with this specific creative team. The series is expected to premiere on ABC TV and the streaming service ABC iView in 2027.
