The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for another major crossover moment. Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release in December 2026, will reunite Earth’s Mightiest Heroes while bringing back familiar faces from Fox’s X-Men franchise.

Speaking with ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan while promoting his new film In Your Dreams, Simu Liu shared his excitement about returning as Shang-Chi in Marvel’s next massive team-up. When asked to describe the film in three words, Liu didn’t hesitate: “Yeah, three: dream come true.”

Reflecting on the experience, Liu said, “I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them.”

Liu’s comeback was officially confirmed on March 26, 2025, during Marvel Studios’ surprise livestream that revealed the Avengers: Doomsday cast.

For Liu, the Phase 6 instalment isn’t just another superhero flick — it’s a celebration of the genre itself. “It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that,” he added.

The actor also touched on the emotional core of the story and what superhero films have meant to him personally. “This movie is for all the misfits and the weirdos and the underdogs that grew up reading comic books and feeling like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre.”

While the Russo brothers are returning to direct — and Kevin Feige has teased that not all cast members have been revealed — fans are already speculating about who else might appear in the multiverse-spanning film. The MCU’s next release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will hit cinemas ahead of Doomsday, marking Tom Holland’s first outing since No Way Home.

There’s still no word on when Avengers: Doomsday’s first trailer will drop, but anticipation is already sky-high.

Meanwhile, Liu’s In Your Dreams premieres on Netflix on November 14 — just enough time for fans to get a glimpse of the actor before his return to Marvel’s biggest stage.
