Oscar-winning editor Lee Smith is making his directorial debut with a new Arctic action-thriller called ‘Sirius.’ The film stars Mads Mikkelsen and just wrapped production in the UK. Joining the cast are several British East Asian actors, including Jason Wong, Jon Xue Zhang, Aidan Cheng, and Bruce Chong.

Inspired by the real-life Danish special forces unit known as the Sirius Patrol, the film focuses on a group tasked with protecting Greenland’s massive coastline. Smith, who won an Oscar for editing Dunkirk and was also nominated for his work on The Dark Knight and Master and Commander, directs from a script written by Tony Mosher.

The director uses both practical and virtual filmmaking to create a unique look for the film. Producer Pascal Degove commented on the talent involved, stating, “I am overjoyed that one of Britain’s most exciting young actors, Finn Cole, has joined Mads Mikkelsen to help bring this fantastic Arctic adventure to life.

Their incredible on-screen chemistry, coupled with the amalgamation of both the practical and the virtual filmmaking tools which Sirius has blended, really puts this film into a genre of its own. They lead a strong ensemble of international talents who each bring real weight and authenticity to the story.”

The film was shot at Versa Studios with Dimension Studios. Neon International is handling foreign sales, and the company’s specialty label, Decal, will handle the domestic release in the US
