Veteran Asian American actor Daniel Dae Kim, known for his roles in genre hits like Lost and Hawaii Five-0, is back in the driver’s seat, headlining Prime Video’s upcoming spy thriller series titled Butterfly. The show promises intrigue, suspense, espionage, and plenty of bullet-infused action, with Kim taking the lead role. We’ve got the first look images and poster, teasing the adrenaline-worthy action.

Butterfly is a live-action adaptation of the popular 2015 graphic novel by Arash Amel. It’s a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. The story centers on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea.

His life gets turned upside down when an impossible decision from his past comes back to haunt him. He finds himself pursued by Rebecca (played by Reina Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for.

The series features a solid international cast, including South Korean actors like Kim Tae-hee (Stairway to Heaven), Park Hae-soo (Squid Game, Money Heist: Korea), Sung Dong-il (Reply 1988), Lee Il-hwa (Reply 1997), and Kim Ji-hoon (Money Heist: Korea). Other notable cast members include Piper Perabo, Sean Dulake, Charles Parnell, and Nayoon Kim.

Daniel Dae Kim not only stars in Butterfly but also serves as an executive producer. He shared his excitement for the project, emphasizing its unique cultural intersection. “Butterfly is the realization of a longtime dream to bring together American and Korean storytellers and create a show that bridges two cultures that I love deeply,” Kim said. “I couldn’t be happier with the creative team we’ve assembled, both in front of and behind the camera, and I’m grateful to Ken Woodruff, BOOM! Studios, 3AD, Amazon, and everyone else who helped bring it to life.”

Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) is the showrunner and co-creator alongside acclaimed novelist Steph Cha. The first two episodes of the six-part series are directed by Kitao Sakurai (Twisted Metal, The Eric Andre Show).
