The South Korean crime action film, Yadang: The Snitch, is set to open in cinemas across the United States and Canada on April 25, 2025. Directed by Hwang Byeong-gug, the film explores the complex and often brutal world of drug crime and those caught between law enforcement and the criminals they pursue.

Yadang: The Snitch is not just another crime film, according to Kang Ha-neul, who stars in the film. “It’s a spectacular thrill ride where time flies. Audiences will feel the fast-paced, tightly woven story,” he says.

At the core of the film is the role of the Yadang, a figure that might be unfamiliar to many viewers. As director Hwang Byeong-gug explains, “In drug-related cases, ‘Yadang’ refers to brokers who act as intermediaries between law enforcement and criminals—providing police or prosecutors with insider information in exchange for financial rewards or reduced sentences.”

The film features Kang Ha-neul as Lee Kang-su, a man who becomes a Yadang. Yoo Hai-jin plays prosecutor Ku Gwan-hee, who partners with Kang-su. Park Hae-joon stars as Det. Oh Sang-jae, a determined narcotics detective.

Yoo Hai-jin describes his character as someone who “keeps his ambitions hidden beneath the surface rather than openly expressing them. I had to carefully decide just how much of his inner desires should be revealed to make him truly compelling.”

Director Hwang Byeong-gug says he was inspired to make the film after reading a news article in 2021. “I had never heard of it before, and that made me curious. The more i researched, the more fascinated I became,” says Hwang.

The film is produced by Hive Media Corp., the studio behind other Korean films such as 12.12: The Day and Deliver Us From Evil. The production team includes Lee Mo-gae as Director of Photography, Lee Seong-hwan as Gaffer, Kwak Jung-ae as Costume Designer, Lee Mok-won as Production Designer, and Heo Myeong-haeng as Stunt Coordinator.
