Streaming giant PCCW Media has just announced a collaboration with SK Global Entertainment, the folks behind Crazy Rich Asians, for a six-part drama series called The Season, set in Hong Kong.

The premise? Picture a group of privileged friends, kicking off boating season with all the luxury you can imagine. But, as we all know, those picture-perfect lives have cracks, and The Season” promises to exploit them. We’re talking deception, power struggles, and those “life-altering consequences” that make for seriously addictive viewing. Think The White Lotus, but with a distinctly Hong Kong flavor.

The cast is stacked. Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone) leads the charge, alongside Karena Lam, Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), and Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender). Plus, you’ve got Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2) and Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson And The Olympians) adding some serious star power. Kōki, Lee Jae-yoon, and a slew of Hong Kong talent round out the ensemble, making this a truly international affair.

Behind the scenes, Yalun Tu, known for his work on NCIS: Hawaii and Wu Assassins, is running the show, with Marialy Rivas (The Jetty) directing. Janice Lee, CEO of Viu, says they’re aiming for a story that connects globally, showcasing Hong Kong’s unique culture, international spirit, and iconic scenes.

Aaron Shershow will produce, while Agatha Lo executive produces for PCCW Media and Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi, and Dylan Tarason for SK Global.

This production marks a significant push for Viu, PCCW Media’s streaming service, which will distribute The Season across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa. SK Global, fresh off hits like Delhi Crime and Anyone But You, is clearly looking to make waves in the drama space.

With its high-profile cast, White Lotus-style premise, and the backing of SK Global, The Season has all the ingredients for a hit. Will it live up to the hype? And can it deliver that authentic Hong Kong experience while appealing to a global audience?
