Cynthia Erivo, the multi-talented actress, has joined the cast of Lionsgate’s upcoming action thriller, Karoshi, starring alongside Teo Yoo and Isabel May. The film, described as a “corporate thriller with a samurai twist,” will be directed by Takashi Doscher and produced by 87Eleven Entertainment, the team behind the John Wick franchise.

The term Karoshi is a Japanese word meaning “death caused by overwork or job-related exhaustion,” suggesting a plot centered around the pressures of corporate life. Reports indicate the film is set in a Japanese-influenced New York City and features a “revenge twist,” hinting at a possible high-stakes conflict within a corporate environment.

Erivo, known for her roles in Widows and the upcoming Wicked films, continues to be one of Hollywood’s most in-demand performers. Her schedule is packed with diverse projects, including a role in Children of Blood and Bone, hosting the 2025 Tony Awards, and appearing in Poker Face.

The film will begin production in June, with Chad Stahelski, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz producing. Doscher, who previously directed the post-apocalyptic thriller Only, is directing from his own script.

The specific roles of Erivo, Yoo, and May are being kept under wraps, as are further plot details. However, the film’s title and description suggest a compelling blend of corporate intrigue and samurai action.
