BLACKPINK’s Lisa has landed herself in the midst of a whirlwind of attention, gracing the cover of Vanity Fair’s 31st Hollywood Issue. Sharing the spotlight with renowned actors like Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, and Dev Patel, Lisa’s presence has ignited a fiery debate online.

While many celebrate the K-pop idol’s crossover into the world of high-fashion magazines and Hollywood recognition, others question whether her limited acting experience warrants a place amongst established actors in a prestigious issue dedicated to cinematic achievements.

Korean Netizens Divided

The online community in Korea is abuzz with discussions about Lisa’s inclusion. Some express skepticism, questioning her qualifications:

“She has 0 acting experience… why is she on this issue?” one netizen commented.
“She must have really good connections to be in an issue for established actors,” another speculated.

However, Lisa’s supporters have come out in full force, praising her ambition and defending her right to explore new avenues:

“I think Lisa deserves to be on this issue. She is taking a bold challenge,” one fan declared.
“I think it is fascinating that Lisa is on the Hollywood issue since she hasn’t really shown her acting skills yet,” another observed.

Radhika Jones, Vanity Fair’s Editor-in-Chief, addressed the controversy head-on in an interview with CBS Morning Plus. She shed light on the magazine’s decision to feature Lisa, emphasizing their commitment to showcasing rising stars and individuals who are not afraid to take risks:

“Yeah, that’s always interesting to us. So take someone like Lisa, who was a huge star in K-Pop world, um, less well known in Hollywood or with a Hollywood audience, but she’s going to be on The White Lotus in the new season. And that, you know, people love that show. So this is our way of saying. Lisa’s incredibly famous, but we’re going to introduce her in a new context, and it’s nice to be able to create that mix.”

Jones further highlighted the magazine’s desire to curate a diverse group of individuals at different stages in their careers, fostering an environment of discovery and reinvention. Lisa, with her upcoming role in “The White Lotus,” perfectly embodies this spirit, marking her transition from K-Pop idol to Hollywood actress.
