Ali Wong is returning to Netflix with her fourth comedy special, Ali Wong: Single Lady, premiering on October 8th. This special delves into Wong’s “divorced mom era,” exploring life after her split with husband of 10 years, John Hakuta.
Filmed during her sold-out residency at the Wiltern in Los Angeles for the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, Single Lady promises a raw and honest look at Wong’s experiences navigating single parenthood and the dating world.
“I didn’t expect the news of my divorce to be so widespread and public,” Wong confessed during one of her Wiltern shows. “I felt really embarrassed and ashamed, but I didn’t realize that all of these media outlets were acting like a bat signal letting all potentially interested men know. I’ve never been pursued this much in my life.”

Known for her fearless and often raunchy humor, Wong doesn’t shy away from sharing intimate details. During one performance, she even invited her new boyfriend, comedian Bill Hader, on stage. “Do you want to meet him?” she asked the audience, before he appeared with a rose in hand. “None of the other shows got to meet him.” It remains to be seen whether this moment made it into the final cut of the special.
Single Lady marks a departure for the Asian American comedian, who has ditched her trademark animal print for this performance. However, fans can still expect her signature no-holds-barred style and candid “life advice.”

This is Wong’s first special since her divorce, and she has spoken about drawing inspiration from her time as a single woman. “I’m not single now, but I was single for a long time after I got divorced,” she shared with Variety. “It was so compelling to talk about my life as a single woman.”
Single Lady premieres on Netflix on October 8th.
