Get ready to fasten your seatbelts and brace for turbulence as Sony Pictures International Productions‘ Korean action thriller Hijack 1971 makes its way to select North American theatres on 5 July.
Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International, the film recounts the harrowing true story of the 1971 Korean Air Lines Flight F27 hijacking, which involved 55 passengers and 5 flight attendants. Tragically, eleven people from the flight are still missing, believed to be held captive in North Korea.
Directed by the talented Kim Sung-han and penned by screenwriter Kim Kyung-chan, Hijack 1971 boasts an all-star cast featuring Ha Jung-woo (Along with the Gods and Narco Saints), Yeo Jin-goo (Hotel del Luna), Sung Dong-il (Project Wolf Hunting), and Chae Soo-bin (The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure). In the winter of 1971, at Sokcho Airport, pilots Tae-in (Ha Jung-woo) and Gyu-sik (Sung Dong-il) prepare for a routine flight to Gimpo. With flight attendant Ok-soon (Chae Soo-bin) guiding passengers to their seats, everything seems ordinary until a homemade bomb detonates shortly after takeoff, throwing the cabin into pandemonium.

As the chaos unfolds, Yong-dae (Yeo Jin-goo), the mastermind behind the hijacking, seizes control of the cockpit, demanding the pilots change course.
