Lionsgate is expanding the John Wick universe once again, this time with a spinoff film focusing on the fan-favourite character Caine, played by Donnie Yen. The untitled project is set to begin filming in Hong Kong in 2025 and will continue Caine’s story following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4.

After pushing back against Asian stereotypes and successfully advocating for script changes in John Wick: Chapter 4, Yen expressed his excitement for returning to the role, stating, “Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil and Erica push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic but also expressive of character, story and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role.”

Adam Fogelson, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, praised Yen’s performance in John Wick: Chapter 4, stating, “From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more.”

This new spinoff joins the growing list of John Wick projects in development, including the upcoming film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as a vengeful dancer, set for release on June 6, 2025. With the franchise’s continued success and the addition of Yen’s captivating portrayal of Caine, fans can expect more thrilling action and captivating storytelling in the expanding John Wick universe.
