Randall Park has reprised his ‘Asian Jim’ character from The Office to prank If star Ryan Reynolds.

In a teaser for the upcoming film, Reynolds expects to sit down with co-star John Krasinski, until Park hijacks the spot. Krasinski is best known for his role as Dunder Mufflin’s office clown, Jim Halpert, in The Office TV series.

Krasinski played Jim for nine seasons but one particularly memorable episode featured Park sitting down at Jim’s desk, pretending to be him, baffling his co-workers.

“Who are you?” Jim’s co-worker Dwight Schrute asks. “I’m Jim, we’ve been working together for 12 years. Weird joke, Dwight,” he responds.

When Dwight highlights Jim, Park’s character replies, “You seriously never noticed? Hey, hats off to you for seeing race,” he says.

In the If promo, a confused Reynolds says to Park, “You’re not John Krasinski, you’re Randall Park. John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian than you are.”

“Uh, Ryan, I know it’s been a while since we shot but we spent like, four months together. Like, 10-hour days,” the Fresh Off the Boat star replies.

Described as a “live-action Pixar film” by Reynolds, If follows Bea (Cailey Fleming), a young girl who can see other people’s imaginary friends. The film mixes live-action and animation, and also stars Jon Stewart, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Louis Gossett Jr., Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, and Awkwafina.

If hits theatres on 17 May 2024.
