The People’s Choice Awards have swung around again but offered little for Asian cinema, aside from a very familiar host.

Things were quite promising for Asian music. BTS star Jungkook was crowned ‘The Male Artist of the Year’, whilst Olivia Rodrigo took home ‘The Song of the Year’ for her hit song ‘Vampire’ and ‘The Album of the Year’ for her album Guts.

Sadly, the Korean pop star and Filipino American idol were the only Asian representatives to win awards the entire night.

Beef star Ali Wong lost out to Selena Gomez and Jeremy Allen White for ‘The Female TV Star of the Year’ and ‘The Comedy TV Star of the Year’, whilst co-star Steven Yeun somehow lost to singer Billie Eilish for in ‘The TV Performance of the Year’ category.

Both Wong and Yeun made history earlier this year at the Golden Globes for their performances in Beef. The film even failed to win a People’s Choice Award for ‘The Bingeworthy Show of the Year’, losing out to The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Barbie star Simu Liu, who hosted the Awards ceremony was muscled out by America Ferrera for ‘The Movie Performance of the Year’.

Also missing from the entire Awards show were Past Lives and its star Greta Lee – both earned Oscar nominations.
