EW reports that Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman has said she wishes she had done more for diversity on the show.

“I wish I knew then what I know today. I would make very different decisions,” Kauffman said on a virtual panel for the ATX Television Festival.

“We’ve always encouraged people of diversity in our company but I didn’t do enough. Now all I can think about is what can I do? What can I do differently?”

“How can I run my show in a new way? And that’s something I not only wish I knew when I started showrunning but I wish I knew all the way up through last year.”

Lauren Tom featured in a short story arc Friends as Ross Gellar’s girlfriend Julie.

“What was so cool about it is that they were so was such a tight-knit group, because sometimes when you have a huge success, it can almost feel like a crisis,” Tom said in an interview with Resonate.

“All of a sudden you’re completely out there in the world and everybody knows you and it’s exciting. They kind of clung to each other.”

Earlier this year, Friends star David Schwimmer proposed a revamp of the hit 90’s show but with an all-Asian or all-Black cast.
