Cincinnati reports that Cincinnati has appointed its first Asian American City Manager.

Paula Boggs Muething was chosen on Tuesday to replace Patrick Duhaney who resigned to take a new job in Virginia.

Before resigning, Duhaney recommended Boggs Muething for his replacement.

Muething is the first Asian American to take on the manager role as well as the city’s second female one.

The 45-year-old was previously the City Solicitor, earning $164,000 a year. Her new role will result in a pay rise.

Former city manager Mayor John Cranley who recommended her for the solicitor position, said “it was clear she was going to take this city by storm.”

“I have always been committed to justice and equality,” Boggs Muething said.

Muething grew up in Kentucky. Her mother was a Japanese immigrant and her father was in the military.
