THR reports that Constance Wu and her on-screen family might not be in the Fresh Off The Boat spin-off.

Still in early development, the Fresh Off The Boat spinoff will feature an entirely new cast and family instead of the original characters.

Fresh Off The Boat writer Rachna Fruchbom will pen the script and exec produce with Melvin Mar.

The spinoff will be ABC’s second spinoff this year, following Mixed-ish – the spinoff to Black-ish, which will launch in the fall.

“I’m looking for some more disruptive ideas in terms of franchises, trying to harken back to what I think were some of the great brand-defining shows of ABC, which led narratively and were braver in their construct, shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives and Scandal. And also frankly, Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.

In May, Wu came under fire for expressing her frustration that Fresh Off The Boat was renewed for another season.

Burke reportedly has not spoken to Wu since her outburst but is pleased that the Crazy Rich Asians star has apologized.

“I was happy that she apologized,” Burke said at the Television Critics Association press day. “I’ve had no further conversations with Constance … I will see her at the table read. We have ongoing conversations with the producers and it was made clear to us very early on that everyone took Constance at her word that she was apologetic.”
