DC Comics will introduce its first ever Asian-American Green Lantern.

SYFY reports that DC Comics wilkl debut its first ever Asian-American Green Lantern.

Written by Minh Lê and Andie Tong the comic will be titled ‘Green Lantern: Legacy’ and will be available next January.

The plot will focus on Vietnamese-American Tai Pham, a 13-year-old comic enthusiast living above his grandmother’s store.

When Tai inherits a jade ring, he is introduced to the Green Lantern Corps. He goes on to fight racist bullies in his neighborhood and his own internal battles.

“One thing that I hope that readers walk away with is a greater appreciation for the heroes in our own lives, particularly those within our families,” Lê said.

“When you come from a family of immigrants and refugees as I do, it can be incredibly humbling. Nothing puts your own problems into perspective like considering the harrowing journeys your loved ones took to get where they are today. So it was with a lot of humility that I set out to write a story that honored that kind of heroism.”

In related comic book news, Destin Daniel Cretton has been hired to direct Marvel’s first Asian American-led film, Shang-Chi.
