Bao director Domee Shi will soon be making her first feature film debut.

As reported by Slash Film, Bao director Domee Shi is set to make her feature film debut with Pixar.

Shi first stole headlines for being the first woman to direct a Pixar short film with Bao, which debuted at the start of Pixar’s Incredibles 2. The short follows the touching story of a Chinese dumpling reflecting on the mother and child relationship.

Bao has been praised for its emotional appeal as well as its reliability for the Asian community. Shi revealed her inspiration came from Asian folk tales.  “I wanted to kind of do a modern version of those types of stories,” she said.

Now, Pixar is working with Shi to produce her first film feature.

“We’re just developing the story for it right now,” Shi said. “It’s super early on, but I’m really excited to play in this new 90-minute film format.”

Shi has also worked on Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4.
