Asians have second highest rate of moviegoing in the US

Asian audiences have the second highest moviegoing rate in the US.

According to Variety, Latino audience had the highest movie going rate last year, whilst Asian audiences were a close second.

A report by the Motion Picture Association of America revealed that Hispanic-Latino filmgoers went to the movies an average of 4.5 times during 2017. Asians attended the cinema on average 4.3 times whilst African-Americans went an average of 3.4 times. Caucasians only attended an average of 3.2 times. “Other” ethnic groups collectively had an average of 4.2 times.

 

Asians only represent 6% of the US population but accounted for 7% of frequent moviegoers. Caucasians represent 1% of the U.S. population and account for 54% of frequent moviegoers. Asians also bought 7% of all tickets whilst Caucasians bought 55%. Regular Asian ticket-buyers jumped from 3.2 million to 3.9 million

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had an audience comprising of 58% Caucasians, who also made up 57% of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi audience.

Asian audiences comprised 10% of the Spider-Man: Homecoming audience, which was the highest turn out for Asians.
