John Cho will star in a reboot of the Japanese classic horror film The Grudge.

According to Variety, John Cho will star alongside Demian Bichir and Andrea Riseborough in Sony’s reimagining of The Grudge.

Nicolas Pesce will direct the film, which was adapted from Takashi Shimizu’s original script by Jeff Buhler.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce via Ghost House Pictures company for Sony.

The Grudge was first reimagined by Hollywood in 2004. The film, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, earned  $187.3 million worldwide on a $10 million budget.

In 2017, audiences had a flavour of Cho in the horror genre after he appeared on TV horror series The Exorcist as returning character Andrew Kim.

Cho, who was primarily known for his comedic role as Harold on the Harold & Kumar series, has since expanded his repertoire into serious dramas including 2017’s Columbus.
