A man has been arrested for attacking a 24-year-old woman with a hammer in Koreatown, Los Angeles.

As reported by KTLA5, the victim was standing in front of her business when the incident occurred. A 22-year-old Korean man approached the woman and asked her if she was Korean. The victim reportedly said yes before the suspect returned and attacked her with a hammer.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released by LAPD but it is expected that the LA County District Attorneys Office will file one count of attempted murder with a hate crime enhancement.

In the video taken from security footage, the victim is seen falling to the ground and covering her face and head. Police confirmed that the woman suffered a number of lacerations and contusions. She was reportedly transported to a hospital nearby and was later released.

A witness told KTLA that several people witness the attack but failed to intervene.

“I went outside and I just saw the guy hitting the lady with the hammer,” witness Karen Orellana told KTLA. “I was scared because that could happen to anyone here.”
