Reuters reports that six men have been arrested in Japan on charges of child pornography involving abuse of at least 168 boys.

The news agency reports that the arrests come with Japan’s efforts in cleaning up its image in preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In 2014 the law to ban possession of child pornography was banned after it was criticised for being too lax in protecting minors from sexual exploitation.

According to media that cited a police statement, the victims were aged 4 to 13. Over 100,000 child pornography files were found on the arrested men’s computers.

The suspects were aged 20 to 66.

Reuters adds that 2016 saw an increase in the umber of child pornography victims to 781 in the first half of the year, compared to 384 in the same period of 2015.

Local police said they could not immediately comment on the reports.
