The true-crime podcast explosion has generated countless amateur sleuths, but rarely has someone turned those forensic recording techniques directly on their own family living room. Audible has announced The Moons of LA, an upcoming scripted comedy audio series starring Ken Jeong, Randall Park, and Daniel Dae Kim, premiering exclusively on the service on 8 October 2026.
Co-produced by Kim’s production company, 3AD, alongside At Will Media and Audible, the project marks the latest release under Kim’s first-look development pact with the audio platform.
The agreement previously yielded the 2024 audio adaptation of David Henry Hwang’s stage play Yellow Face, which subsequently transferred to Broadway with Kim in the central role.
A Middle School Detective With A Microphone
Written by Paul Bae, known for the podcast The Black Tapes, and directed by James Kim (Moonface), the series follows Chloe Moon, played by Alyssa Abiera.
Chloe is an observant middle schooler captivated by investigative true-crime audio shows. When she realises her parents’ marriage is failing, she responds by launching an inquiry.

Carrying a microphone and treating family domestic life as an open case file, Chloe interviews relatives and acquaintances across Los Angeles. She questions grandmotherly halmeonis over plates of banchan and cross-examines her father’s boisterous golf companions, trying to untangle why adult partnerships break down.
The production gathers a remarkable Asian American cast. Alongside Jeong, Park, Kim, and Abiera, the ensemble features Jae Suh Park, Jimmy O. Yang, John Cho, Sherry Cola, Vivian Bang, Sydney Park, and Liza Soberano.
Exploring Identity and Family Pressures
Executive producers include Kim, Jeong, John Cheng, Will Malnati, and Ashley Taylor.
Kim noted that the production uses situational comedy to look closely at immigrant family dynamics and generational definitions of achievement.
