Peacock and A24 have added a familiar face to their upcoming crime drama, Superfakes. Veteran actor Dustin Nguyen, best known for his breakout role in 21 Jump Street, has joined the cast in a recurring role. He joins a high-profile lineup that includes Lucy Liu and Industry star Ken Leung.
The series follows Liu as a small-time dealer of counterfeit luxury goods in Chinatown. Her character decides to navigate a high-stakes black-market underworld to secure a comfortable suburban life for her family. Ken Leung will play her husband as they deal with the fallout of her dangerous career path.

Dustin Nguyen will portray Henry, described as an “old-school, tattooed gangster” with a “shifty” reputation. Henry is a complex character defined by his insecurities and superstitions. Despite his commanding presence, he is a man adrift who has survived decades in the criminal racketeering world through a mix of luck and sheer ruthlessness.
Nguyen’s casting follows a string of successful projects for the actor, including roles in Warrior, The Accidental Getaway Driver, and Dope Thief. After spending years as a major star and filmmaker in Vietnam, he has firmly re-established himself in the American television landscape.
Behind the Scenes Talent
The pedigree behind Superfakes is impressive. The show comes from creator Alice Ju, an Emmy winner who wrote for the hit Netflix series Beef and worked on Poker Face. Ju serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the series.
Adding to the show’s “cool factor” are executive producers Josh and Benny Safdie, the duo behind Uncut Gems and The Curse. They are joined by Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, and Lucy Liu herself. The project is a co-production between A24 and UCP.
Peacock gave the show a direct-to-series order in January 2025. By pairing a writer from Beef with the gritty style of the Safdie brothers, the network appears to be aiming for a high-tension, character-driven thriller. The cast also features Bohan Phoenix, Michelle Jones Lee, and Keith Leung.
While we don’t have a release date yet, the combination of Chinatown’s counterfeit trade and the Safdies’ trademark intensity makes this one of the more anticipated dramas in development.
