Constance Wu is making her way back to television, joining the third season of Elsbeth, CBS’ offbeat mystery drama led by Carrie Preston as quirky legal sleuth Elsbeth Tascioni.
Wu will take on the role of Dr. Mallory Ryan, described as a “wealth therapist” who helps the ultra-rich grapple with the emotional toll of their privileged lives. According to CBS, “When one patient suspects Mal of using their sessions to gather information for insider trading, Dr. Mal must terminate more than their doctor-patient relationship.”
The part marks another dynamic turn for Wu, who built her career on characters navigating cultural identity and class divides — from Fresh Off the Boat’s sharp humor to Crazy Rich Asians’ glamorous excess. Here, her Elsbeth debut flips that dynamic on its head, exploring the moral gray areas of those tasked with managing luxury itself.
Elsbeth, a spinoff of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, stands out from traditional courtroom dramas by leaning into a “howcatchem” format — the audience often knows the culprit from the start, watching Elsbeth work her unconventional magic to unravel the truth. The series, which premiered in 2024, is now in its third season and continues to attract a stellar roster of guest stars, including Matthew Broderick, Jane Krakowski, and Nathan Lane.
Wu’s episode will also feature Pitch Perfect star Anna Camp as Juliet Woodbent, a homemaker and social media personality caught in her own darkly comedic downfall.

Following her recent turn opposite Naomi Watts and Bill Murray in The Friend, Wu’s television slate is heating up again. She’s next set to star in Mindy Kaling’s Hulu comedy Not Suitable for Work and return for Season 2 of Amazon’s The Terminal List.
With her Elsbeth role, Wu adds yet another layered, complex woman to her filmography — one that continues to redefine the boundaries of Asian American representation on screen.
