Civil rights activist and astronaut Amanda Nguyen has broken new ground, becoming the first Vietnamese woman to appear solo on a Vogue cover — featured as part of Vogue Singapore’s digital Vogue Voices series.
“What an absolute dream come true,” Nguyen said. “I didn’t realize I was the first until I began receiving messages from the Vietnamese community about what this moment has meant to them. I’m deeply honored to represent and celebrate our shared heritage.”

Known for her dual impact in advocacy and science, Nguyen’s Vogue Voices digital cover spotlights her pioneering work for sexual assault survivors, her achievement as the first Vietnamese woman astronaut, and her leadership as founder of Rise, the civil rights nonprofit she launched 11 years ago to fight for survivors’ rights globally.
“Thank you to Vogue Singapore for this incredible platform and for amplifying diverse voices and stories,” Nguyen added, reflecting on the significance of the feature.
