Peacock is set to release a new spy thriller series, “The Copenhagen Test,” which will star and be executive produced by Simu Liu. The series, which promises a sleek collision of psychological paranoia and high-tech espionage, is scheduled to premiere on December 27.
The core premise of “The Copenhagen Test” turns the traditional spy thriller inward. Liu plays Alexander Hale, a first-generation Chinese-American intelligence analyst who makes a chilling discovery: his brain has been hacked. This compromise gives unseen operatives access to everything he sees and hears.

Hale finds himself trapped. He is caught between his own shadowy intelligence agency and the hackers who have invaded his consciousness, making his mind their most valuable asset. The show’s synopsis notes that he “must maintain a performance 24/7 to flush out who’s responsible and prove where his allegiance lies.”
The official trailer, which debuted at New York Comic Con, provided a taut glimpse into this world of paranoia. “I don’t know who I can trust anymore,” Liu’s character says at one point. The footage features quick cuts of surveillance feeds, frantic agency meetings, and fast-paced action sequences.

Spies and Intrigue
Liu is joined by Melissa Barrera, who plays Michelle, a mysterious ally who engages in both physical combat and a complicated romantic interest with Hale. The series, which is set just “five minutes in the future,” blends sci-fi concepts with high-stakes spy fiction.
“The Copenhagen Test” was created by Thomas Brandon and Jennifer Yale, who both serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. The series is produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Wan’s involvement channels his fascination with control and the unseen machinery of fear into the realm of elevated genre storytelling.
The cast also features Sinclair Daniel, Brian D’Arcy James, Mark O’Brien, and Kathleen Chalfant. The first two episodes were directed by Jet Wilkinson.
The series will stream exclusively on Peacock starting December 27, positioning Liu in one of his most intense and psychologically demanding roles yet.
