The songwriter behind ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ megahit ‘Golden’ is stepping into the spotlight with her own artist project.

The voice behind the animated sensation Rumi from ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ singer-songwriter EJAE (Kim Eun-jae), has announced her debut solo single, “In Another World,” set for release on October 24.

EJAE, who also co-wrote the chart-topping track “Golden,” is making the move to launch her own artist project after spending years as a successful songwriter behind the scenes.

Stepping Into the Spotlight

EJAE announced the new single on her Instagram, sharing that she decided to give life to songs she had written that “never found the right home.”

“I’ve decided I want my artist project to give life to those songs, so people can laugh, dance, or cry with me and the amazing collaborators who helped create them. There’s one song that feels like the perfect place to start,” she said.

The artist explained that her initial dream was to be a “star,” but she eventually grew comfortable operating behind the scenes. This period of success included penning hits for groups like Red Velvet, aespa, and Twice.

“People keep referring to me as an ‘artist’ or a ‘star’ — which is everything 11-year-old EJAE dreamed of, but over the years, I became comfortable behind the scenes, and I didn’t think I was meant to be an artist,” she said.

However, the massive, unexpected success of ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ pushed her to embrace the spotlight. “The past few months have been a crazy ride… I mean, I was just on SNL!!! I’m so humbled and grateful for the love I’ve received as a songwriter and the singing voice of Rumi from ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’” she shared.

Finding Her Own Voice

EJAE is choosing to define her status as an artist on her own terms. “To me, an artist is someone who uses their art to express themselves, and songwriting is my art. For years, writing has been my therapy, my way of coping, celebrating, making sense of the noise in my head,” she explained.

The process of gaining rapid exposure has been both exciting and challenging. “Getting so much exposure so quickly has been strange, exciting, and truthfully a little scary,” she admitted.

EJAE is a former SM Entertainment trainee who trained for nearly a decade before transitioning to songwriting in the US. Her prolific career has earned her the nickname “the Benny Blanco of K-pop.”

Her new single, “In Another World,” is set to be released on October 24, following her high-profile appearances on SNL and The Tonight Show.
