Lee Jung-jae, the actor behind the Netflix survival drama, has been cast opposite Lim Ji-yeon in Nice to Not Meet You, a new series that will explore the inner workings of the entertainment world.

Prime Video has commissioned a new Korean romantic comedy series, Nice to Not Meet You, which will pair the international star Lee Jung-jae with actress Lim Ji-yeon. The project marks a significant genre departure for Lee, who is widely known for his Emmy-winning performance in the brutal survival drama Squid Game.

The series centers on two distinct characters whose lives unexpectedly intersect. Lee will play Lim Hyeon-jun, an actor who, despite the success of his long-running detective series, feels pigeonholed in his career and longs for more emotionally substantial roles.

Lim Ji-yeon, known for her acclaimed performance in the revenge thriller The Glory, will portray Wi Jeong-sin, a political journalist who is suddenly and reluctantly reassigned to the entertainment desk, forcing her to cover the very world she looks down upon.

A Collision of Two Worlds

The premise of Nice to Not Meet You sets up a comedic and heartfelt clash between these two individuals. As the official synopsis notes, “What begins as a clash of personalities unfolds into a story full of charm, laughter, and unexpected chemistry.” The series is expected to serve as both an industry satire and a romantic comedy, finding humor in the collision of a serious journalist’s worldview with the sometimes absurd realities of the entertainment industry.

The series will be directed by Kim Ga-ram, whose credits include the legal drama Good Partner and the romance series Nevertheless. The scripts are being written by Jung Yeo-rang, known for Doctor Cha.

The casting represents a strategic move by Prime Video, which has been actively expanding its Korean content offerings. Lee Jung-jae’s international star power, amplified by his post-Squid Game success and his subsequent role in the Star Wars series The Acolyte, combined with Lim Ji-yeon’s rising profile, is a calculated attempt to compete with Netflix’s dominance in the K-drama space.

Nice to Not Meet You will be co-produced by Studio Dragon and Studio&NEW, with Prime Video rolling out the series globally across more than 240 countries. A premiere date has not yet been set.
