BTS label BigHit Music is back with a new K-pop boy band, CORTIS. The group comes six years after BigHit introduced the world to Tomorrow X Together (TXT).

At midnight KST on 7 August, the label dropped a minimalist teaser announcing CORTIS, a five-member boy group set to debut on 18 August. The teaser — a single shot of the group’s name glowing pink on a laptop screen — might’ve been cryptic, but the message was clear: something new is coming.

CORTIS: A New Era, A New Energy

CORTIS (코르티스) comprises Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho — a lineup of young creatives who aren’t just stepping into the K-pop spotlight, but actively shaping it.

According to Koreaboo, Martin, the group’s Canadian-Korean leader, is just 17 but already has songwriting credits on tracks by TXT, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT. James, 20, is the group’s eldest member, with Thai-Chinese heritage and a background in choreography, having worked behind the scenes with some of HYBE’s top-tier artists.

The rest of the group — Juhoon (17), Seonghyeon (16), and maknae Keonho (16) — hail from Korea and bring their own flavour to the mix.

What sets CORTIS apart isn’t just their résumé. It’s their role as “young creators” — a term BigHit is using to spotlight the group’s active involvement in crafting their sound, visuals and movement. In a statement, the label said all members will “express their creative talent based on their own stories,” regardless of their roles within the group.

It’s an artist-forward approach that feels in line with BigHit’s evolving strategy: centring artists not just as performers, but as producers, thinkers and collaborators.

K-pop’s Next Generation Arrives — While Legends Linger

CORTIS’s debut comes at a moment of heightened emotion for ARMY and K-pop fans alike. BTS recently reunited, triggering speculation of a comeback — and while the original kings of BigHit might be preparing to reclaim their throne, CORTIS is stepping onto the scene with fresh ambition and global potential.

Their official X (Twitter) and TikTok accounts are already live, and a new video is slated to drop on 10 August via HYBE LABELS’ YouTube — possibly offering the first glimpse into their sonic world.

So far, the vibes are low-key but promising. A digital-age reveal, a multicultural lineup, and a concept rooted in collaboration — it’s early days, but CORTIS might just be the beginning of K-pop’s next chapter.
